Discharge Resistors

Discharge resistors are devices used to, as the name implies, discharge capacitors to safe voltage levels after power down, and also to discharge batteries during testing.

At Nugar Resistor Technology we manufacture these devices specially designed to work in adverse contexts, in environments that have a high level of dust and splashes of water.

With more than 30 years of experience in the market, we continue to innovate to offer our customers the latest in braking resistors.

On this occasion, we will tell you everything you need to know about discharge resistors, the types that exist and the characteristics of the devices that we manufacture in the company.

Discharge Resistor Types

Discharge resistors present two different types of filter: the SVC static compensators and the HVDC system. The former are used to compensate for the circulation of reactive power in electrical networks.

That is why they are used to transmit power, obtain better performance in distribution and control reactive power.

It should be noted that inductors and capacitors allow harmonic currents to be diverted towards the resistance, where they are safely dissipated.

The HVDC system, on the other hand, is used to transmit electricity in direct current at high voltage. When turned on, the pre-insertion resistor limits the charging current of the capacitors and the cable.

When the equipment stops, the DC cable remains charged (high capacity) and the energy is evacuated by discharging the cable.

It is important to note, especially if you have no previous experience with this type of device, that a discharge resistor can be energized through the capacitor, which allows a fast discharge without dissipation at rest.

And also that it is possible to keep it permanently connected, due to its high reliability and low cost.

Benefits of Wirewound Resistors

Our wirewound discharge resistors are designed in a compact way, a characteristic that makes them perfect for installation in environments with a high level of dust and splashes of water.

It is important to point out that these devices can be supplied with a custom connection hose cable and with an IP55 connection box.

Also, among its main features, the possibility of integrating a thermal protector stands out, which provides better operation.

Discharge resistors can work in a power range that goes from 1.5 kW to 25 kW, a quality that makes them useful for use in frequency and braking variators.

Remember that we are manufacturers of all types of extremely silent braking resistors, also using environmentally friendly materials in each case.

All the devices are conceived and designed to avoid damaging the drive of the equipment due to overvoltage and thus be able to guarantee that it does not stop safely.
